2012 Kilve Cricket Club Winter nets – Coming to a sports hall near you

Winter nets. It’s that time of year again where the trusty blade gets a fresh coat of oil, the whites are neatly pressed and the jockstrap has been nicely starched in readiness for the battle about to commence.

Or, more likely it’s that time to wonder where on earth you put your cricket bag, complete with it’s pungent odour of unwashed, grass-stained whites and a mouldy box – along with a pair of spikes encased in a concrete-hard layer of mud and grass. I’m sure  it was round here somewhere!

Starting at 9.20am on Sunday 29th January, Winter nets will be held at Chilton Trinity School Sports Centre in Bridgwater. For anyone having trouble planning how soon to set off on the horse and cart, you can find a map below.

Please make an effort to attend, as you’ll get to hang around with all the cool kids and swap football stickers, or something like that.

If you’ve never been to one before (Hello Glen), it’s the time all players turn up with great intentions of improving their game for the new season but it all falls apart within 5 minutes. Batsmen like to play a couple of textbook forward defensive shots before attempting to smoke every ball to the next village, and all the bowlers are looking to prove their undoubted supreme masculinity by digging every ball in short on a hard concrete surface – the perfect preparation to bowling on sticky village wickets!

Best of all though, we all get to spend some quality time together after a few months away. That is reason enough.

We hope to you all there raring to go!
